Setting Your Love

May 2010

Dear Friends,

God is so good!!!!! There is none like Him. In the twinkling of an eye, what once was wrong becomes right. What was bringing harm, is now turned to our benefit. Do you know God desires to do all good things for you? Do you know that He has you on His mind? He has provided all things for you in Jesus, and has set in His Word, instructions for us to be able to hook into all these provisions, and His Word is not burdensome. (1John 5:3).

Psalms 91 is a wonderful psalm, and many Christians love this psalm more than all of the others. So let's look at some of the things it says. It tells us that we will not be afraid of any attacks that may come against us. Also, that the evil that falls upon others will not touch us. His angels protect us and hold us up so that we will walk above all things and trample the enemy under our feet. What a powerful psalm of deliverance, protection, healing, soundness, victory, and all the things that salvation provides.

The Psalm goes on to say in verses 14-16, "Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name. He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With a long life I will satisfy him and let him see My salvation." He says He will deliver us, not because we deserve it with all of our imperfections, but simply because we choose to set our love on Him. The Message Translation says, "If you hold on to Me for dear life, I will get you out of any trouble." What a promise!!

He will not only set us on high, but set us securely. This means to be high, be inaccessibly high, to be (too) high (for capture). It is to be (safely) set on high, to exalt (in effective hostility), to act exalted. In the New Testament the Word tells us that as new creatures in Christ we are "Seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus." This is because we have known His Name. We understand, perceive, and are acquainted with His name. When we are acquainted with someone's name, then when we hear their name, all that we know of the person is connected with the name. Based on what we know of them when we hear their name, we will have thoughts of trust or distrust, like or dislike, we will have thoughts that are appealing or those that are of disgust. What do we know when hear His name? It will determine where we will be set.

We can call on Him and He promises to answer, and He'll be with us in trouble. When we are in distress and dire straits He is right there with us. He'll not forsake us. When we are dealing with afflictions or anguish He will be with us to rescue and honor us. He will deliver us, pull us out of trouble, tear down the enemy's stronghold. Then we would be honored, renowned, esteemed, be glorious; to show oneself great or mighty; honored (carries a lot of weight). When God honors you, then all of hell will know you as great and mighty. You will carry a lot of weight. You'll be listened to because the outcome of not listening would become known. The enemy will know his troubles cannot hold you, and he'll look somewhere else.

We would be satisfied, fulfilled and enriched in a long life. He will allow us to see His salvation. We would regard; perceive; experience; and understand His salvation; We would live to see; to enjoy; ascertain, verify, to be fully aware of His salvation in our lives. It is His salvation, healing, deliverance, victory, welfare, soundness, protection. What a great promise!!

This is all for the one who "sets their love on Him." To set our love is to be attached to, have pleasure in, delight in. It has the sense of joining together, adhering, cleaving. This kind of love is already bound to its object. God has set His love on us, and all He is asking is that we do the same. That He be our delight and pleasure. He is only asking that we adhere, attach our self, and cleave to Him. Then He would be able to do what He delights in. That is to give us abundantly all of His salvation benefits!! It's all there for the taking.
